Delivered by Surfers Against Sewage and The World Cetacean Alliance, and sponsored by Brighton Pride, supported by Bird and Blend.

Sunday 7th August 2022.

Whilst Pride don’t manage or organise events on the beach, we feel we all have a responsibility to keep our city clean, not just on Pride weekend but all year round.

Our beaches are our city’s crowning glory and we are proud to have partnered with a number of other local community organisations to support and sponsor the second ‘Big Pride Beach Clean’ to be delivered by Surfers Against Sewage.

Volunteers who complete a full session can get a free ticket to We Are Fabuloso – Pride in the Park on Sunday 7th August as a huge thank you from us! So don your rainbow party outfits, embrace the themes of Rainbow, Glitz and Glam and join us for a breakfast beach clean party on the beach.

There are 2 sessions and 2 sites so if you want to join your mates make sure you sign up to the right session as we can’t accept transfers on the day.

PARTNERS

We are a grassroots movement that has grown into one of the UK’s most active and successful environmental charities. We’re a community dedicated to the protection of oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife. We fight long and hard to protect what we love and we won’t stop until it’s completely clean, safe and protected for everyone, forever.

Not just surfers, not just sewage. We began as a response by the surfing community to the dreadful state of our beaches. The campaign grew loud, proud and strong and thanks to the passion and perseverance of our members — the UK now enjoys some of the cleanest beaches in Europe.

Of course it’s not just surfers who care passionately about our coastlines — our members are swimmers, dog walkers, paddleboarders, beach cleaners, kite surfers, sandcastle builders, ice cream eaters and sun bathers too. We protect it because we love it and that’s where we feel most at home.

We’ll always care about Water Quality issues and our Safer Seas Service continually monitors sewage spills in real time on beaches around the UK. But ‘Plastic is the new sewage’ as it is now the biggest threat to our beaches, our precious marine eco-system and our happiness.

The World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) is the largest global network of partners, working together to address some of the most pressing issues facing cetaceans and their ocean habitats. For almost a decade, the WCA has endeavoured to benefit and protect whales, dolphins, porpoises and their environments around the world.

We believe that real change comes from working in partnership, whether it’s with individuals, communities, organisations, institutions or governments. Where there is collaboration, there is a shared sense of purpose. By supporting each other, we can safeguard cetaceans and the places they call home, in harmony with the communities they live alongside, for generations to come.

The Sussex Dolphin Project is the local flagship project of the World Cetacean Alliance, encompassing the key aims and values at a local scale. We are committed to protecting local dolphin species through research, awareness and education programmes to deliver ecosystem-level restoration and rejuvenation.
