Brighton Pride are delighted to announce that a Working Party of local community members and representatives of local Trans* organisations has been formed to create the Trans* Community Area on Preston Park for the Pride Festival.

Plans for the Trans* Community Area agreed so far include a community hub, a safe space, private toilets, support group info hub, chill out zone and a vibrant community performance area, curated by local poet and performer Alice Denny.

Billie Lewis, Manager of Access & Inclusion for Brighton & Hove Pride, said, ” I am delighted that our Trans* Community will be represented on the Park. I would encourage everyone to go along and support their friends and family on the day. The tent will not only be used as a place to relax, socialise and be entertained. It will also act as a hub of local support information and a place of safety. The Trans* Community Area will have direct contact to the reporting services at the Access Tent too so any incidents can be reported directly on the day. Although the Trans* Community Area will have its own private toilets we welcome our Friends from the Trans* community to also use the Facilities at the Access Tent including the High Dependency Unit that has an area for changing.”

On joining the Pride Trans Community Area Working Party and welcoming the community to the space, Alice Denny, Local Poet and performer at the Trans* Community Area said, I borrowed a life motto from Sparrow and The Workshop. . . “Don’t be afraid and don’t be ashamed to make your own world”. This sums up everything for me really and reminds me to be a bit braver”.
