You are invited to take part in the Pride Diversity Games Petanque Tournament on Saturday 23rd July.
The Petanque Tournament is open to all comers. Matches will be played at the Brighton & Hove Petanque Club terrain, right on the Seafront – where Brighton meets Hove (by the Peace Statue). This is the first LGBT Inclusive Petanque Tournament in the UK.
The Tournament is hosted by Brighton & Hove PC, and will be a competitive, inclusive and fun tournament, played as an Open Doubles competition. This means you can form teams in any combination of genders. If you don’t have a partner, we are happy for you to register as an individual and we will aim to match you with another player.
The format for the morning will be leagues of 4, playing 3 rounds under timed conditions. The afternoon format will be Gold, Silver & Bronze knock-out competitions with 8 teams in each. If you lose your first afternoon match you will be entered into a Consolage competition. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 5 matches and a maximum of 6. The detailed schedule of play and rules will be provided to all teams at the Check-In of the competition
We strongly encourage each team to play in matching tops – this helps our many spectators follow the games. Please note, there are limited changing facilities available at terrain. Access to the terrain is suitable for all, but the clubhouse is accessed via a steep stone staircase. Accessible public toilets are nearby.
Brighton & Hove PC are providing teas and coffees during the day, and there are cafés nearby for lunches, snacks and soft drinks.
The venue is located a short walk from Brighton city centre and main Railway Station. Public transport access via buses and short walk. Parking is available nearby, although costly.
Boules will be available to hire for the day from our host club for those who need them.
Tournament information is subject to change depending upon the number of registered players.
If you have any questions, please contact: Petanque@blagss.org
The awards presentations will be made at the Pride Fun Sport’s Day in Preston Park on Sunday 24th July 2016, which includes loads of fun competitions such as a tug-of-war and egg ‘n’ spoon races, plus lots of sporting activities. Make sure you book accommodation early and stay for the weekend!
