FilmPride Returns in August with a FREE online and TV festival – and very special guest judges

FilmPride, Brighton & Hove Pride’s official queer film festival, returns in August for its third season but sadly again, due to COVID-19, FilmPride decided to run their festival online.

Deborah Espect, Artistic Director of FilmPride, says: “We can’t wait to be able to go back to delivering live events again. But for now, until we feel it’s completely safe to do so, we’re so glad to be able to offer our community and allies the chance to watch over 60 fantastic short films, documentaries and animations for free, all through August! With a wide range of topics and films coming from many different parts of the world, there’ll be something for everyone. We’re very proud to be showing our audiences films from some of the best independent queer filmmakers of today.”

Many festivals have delivered their contents online this year, but what makes FilmPride different is that a selection of the filmmakers from the festival will also have their work shown on Latest TV and Northern Visions, Brighton and Belfast’s local TV channels, available on Freeview 7 and Virgin Media 159, as part of the FilmPride TV festival from 2nd to 15th August. The shows will also be livestreamed on the channels’ websites, giving everyone, everywhere, the chance to watch them.

The FilmPride free online festival will then take place from 16th to 31st August. As well as the films, audiences will be able to watch pre-recorded Q&As with some of the filmmakers, giving them the opportunity to find out more about their work and experiences making their films.

There will also be some friendly competition this year, as judges will be giving out awards for Best Documentary, Best Drama, Best Comedy and Best Animation. Amongst the judges, FilmPride is incredibly proud to have, as a very special guest, human rights activist Peter Tatchell along with poet and performer Sophia Blackwell and cabaret artist Miss Hope Springs.
