PrintWe need foster carers for children of all ages. Some of the children will only need to stay a short time, some may need to stay in foster care until they reach adulthood.

We’re pleased that we already have some LGBT people who foster with us, and we would welcome more enquiries from the LGBT community.

Surrey’s fostering service’s approach is based on an attachment, restorative justice and social pedagogy model. Children coming into care have often experienced trauma and may have difficulties trusting adults and forming secure relationships (attachment difficulties). When children make mistakes we want to help them in a restorative manner. So rather than punish them, we explore with them other choices they could have made, and the impact of their actions on themselves and others (restorative justice). The way in which we do this is to use our heads to think, our hearts to feel and our hands to work and play together (social pedagogy).
